GSM vs. Basis Weight (lbs)

You may also see paper specified by Basis Weight, measured in pounds (lbs), which is common in North America. This system is often confusing. For example, "80 lb Text" paper and "80 lb Cover" paper have very different actual weights and thicknesses. An 80 lb text paper is around 120 GSM, while an 80 lb cover paper is about 216 GSM.
